University of South Alabama baseball head coach Steve Kittrell announced the addition of junior college right-handed pitcher Adam Jung to the Jags’ 2010 recruiting class Tuesday.
“We’re excited about Adam signing with South Alabama,” Kittrell said. “We think he’s got a chance to come in and join our weekend rotation right away.”
A native of North Saanich, B.C., Jung is currently pitching at Central Arizona College. He has posted a 5-1 record with a 2.97 ERA through his first 13 outings this season. In 75.2 innings, Jung has allowed only 71 hits while recording 63 strikeouts against 22 walks.Jung has not allowed a home run all season and has thrown two complete games. Additionally, he has allowed three earned runs or less in 10 of 12 starts for the Vaqueros. “He’s a guy that’s going to command three pitches for strikes, and he’s got a solid out pitch,” pitching coach Scot Sealy said. “They’ve got a good program out there, and they play some tough competition, so for him to not give up a home run all year in that thin air is really impressive.” The 6-foot-2 hurler spent his freshman season at Treasure Valley (Ore.) Community College after finishing his prep career at Lambrick Park Secondary School. At Treasure Valley, Jung pitched 60.0 innings over 13 appearances. He posted a 5-4 record with one save and a 2.40 ERA. With Jung’s signing, the Jags now have seven players in the 2010 signing class.

University of Dayton baseball head coach Tony Vittorio announced the signing of five student-athletes for the 2009-2010 year on Wednesday. UD will add Eric Dawson, Ian Gardeck, Bryce Lahrman, Jake Roberts and Dan Welch to a strong core of Flyers.
Welch, a catcher from Central Arizona College has also committed to playing baseball at Dayton. Welch is noted for his sizeable performance behind the plate and the ability to catch runners stealing. He hit .416 in fall baseball for perennial junior college powerhouse Central Arizona. Prior to that, Welch played for Treasure Valley Community College hitting .282, going yard three times while collecting five doubles on the season.
"All five of these commitments definitely filled our recruiting needs out of this year's recruiting class. With the addition of two power pitching arms in Gardeck and Lahrman, an experienced catch and throw guy in Welch, as well as two athletic position players in Roberts and Lawson, I am extremely excited about the future of our baseball program at The University of Dayton," said Vittorio. "All five of these players will fit into our program and represent what a University of Dayton Baseball Player is all about."
The five additions will join the Flyers for the 2009-2010 school year. Dayton begins its 2009 campaign on the road at High Point on Feb. 20.
